Bear Lake

Fish: smallmouth bass
Cottages: Yes

This is a small lake located northwest of Huntsville. You can access it from Highway 518 and down either West Bear Lake Road or East Bear Lake Road. Boat access to the water is off East Bear Lake Road. There is also a gravel road that winds towards the southern end of the lake. Almost all the cottages are found along the east waterfront of the lake from the north end and then more sporadically towards the south end.

This is another Bear Lake but to the northwest of Dorset and Lake of Bays. Actually, this Bear Lake is on the northern tip of Kawagama Lake. It’s a smaller lake but quite popular during the summer months. Access to the southern end of the lake can be gained by taking Bear Lake Road off Highway 12. At this end there are some campsites and its a common paddling route where people paddle or canoe from this point to the north end of the lake and portage to Livingstone Lake.

There are also a number of cottages in this area. However, the access road to get alongside the lake is a gravel road off of Hwy 12. Its about 2.5 km past Bear Lake Road. It winds along both Livingstone and Bear Lake. The fishing is pretty good for small mouth bass and there is also some brook trout. Lake trout is a bit slower and best through the ice or spring trolling.

Our Lake Ontario list is growing and our goal is to strive to give the most comprehensive list available. If there is a particular lake we missed or you think deserves mention, please Contact Us. We'd love to hear from you.
